Author Mari Sandoz was as passionate about Plains peoples as she was about language and literary acclaim. An avid letter writer, Sandoz was one of the most significant non-Native chroniclers and advocates for Plains Indian cultures. I used a typewriter to set the typography of the cover design as an homage to the many hours Sandoz spent at her typewriter advocating for native peoples.
