A little book with big sentiment. The text is a short essay about how the author came to admire and appreciate the women of Texas after settling in Austin 40 years ago. Texas women—rosas xanthias (yellow roses), as she calls them—possess a unique combination of contradictory qualities, highlighted by devotion to the cosmetic arts, a sense of humor, a talent for “neighboring,” and general fortitude. Yellow roses on the cover was a no brainer but I also chose to infuse the design with a sense of nostalgia and sentiment by styling the design after a mid-century greeting card.
